Thoroughbred was established in England in the 18th century when
English mares were bred with imported Arabian stallions to develop a
racing horse. All modern Thoroughbreds descend from three stallions
imported to England from the Middle East. The first Thoroughbred horse
in the American Colonies was introduced in 1730. Although the
Thoroughbred is mainly bred for racing; the taller ones can also be used
for show jumping and the smaller ones for polo. The size of a
Thoroughbred is approximately 64 inches or 1.63 meters high and can be
brown, bay, gray/roan, black or chestnut.
