Netherlands. It eventually developed into a nobleman's steed because of
its natural gracefulness and nimbleness. During the Middle Ages,
Friesian horses were widely used to carry knights in full armor. After
almost becoming extinct several times, today the Friesian has grown in
numbers and popularity. The breed excels in both dressage and driving
and is best known for its black color, flowing mane and tail, and the
long untrimmed hair on its lower legs.
