. The
famous Clydesdale Horse appeared 300 years ago in Scotland, where it
helped pull heavy loads on farms. It is over 18 hands (6 feet) tall and
has hooves twice the size of a normal racehorse's! Those extra-large
hooves are covered by white hair called "feather" and although it
originally protected the horse's legs, it is now there mostly for show.
Even as a baby, this gentle horse is quite large with foals weighing up
to180 pounds!
